How to run a campaign meeting
Hey, here the notes from the meeting:
Oh, so very tired, and jittery, not a great combination. Well today I'll be going through the print centers to get approval because I guess that we have to get most of the posters done right away (because printing will take a while).
Everyone come to the forums, they are going to be giving away iPod dealies.
- if we can for the forum it was suggested that we have someone really outgoing to act as 'Spanky' (dress-up) and do the talk
Chris:
- keep it simple
- just quick who we are, what we are about and what we want to do
- photocopies do not work well! Looks unprofessional
***- 1x1.4 print as a full color laser and cut in half ***
Don't go with dark colours
- sunrise printing - loves joke candidates
- pamphlets and bag tags don't work as well
- only 1/4 of the campus actually vote
- let the campaign staff know that they are appreciated, they are going to get the shaft whether or not you lose
Janet: janet.lo@ualberta.ca
- convey the candidate
- have about 30 seconds to sell
- consise, but don't over simplify and be precise
- visuals
- team (5-10 dedicated, vs 80-90), can't waste time if candidate, campaign manager pretty much gets screwed over (that's right, I'm screwed)
- most important time is the ten minutes between classes
- candidate self, balance is key
- use classrooms, important to be confident
- work fast through the classes, two minutes per class
- best bet is the tory, hit at least two big lecture halls
- be respectful to the profs, be there at quarter-to as people are leaving
- get a volunteer to watch you and gain the audience impression
- hit the Gateway and CJSR, and be ready for them to come, there will be interviews all of the time
- if you are going to do the interviews, give the soundbites, take time, collect self, think and deliver
- candidate is heart - body - and mind
- talk to the profs, they will be supportive
Mike: 903-2256
- need to get out there and be seen
- need to sell self
- bigger classrooms, not always better
- word of mouth is the most important
- don't use the webboard
- name recognition is most important with the preferrential ballot
- simple posters
- maybe one idea
- put all money into visuals, posters, bag-tags
- consistant branding
- go to 50th street with food bank donation
- need to buy 'flame proofing' for banners, $10.75
- do a good job, will try to test the banners
- handle volunteers well, be nice to other candidates
- better to have no one and nothing over only stuff on the table
- should try to man at least one table
- CRO is good, apparently they used to charge for cell phones
Random questions:
- small number usually get torn down
- usually make about 400 posters
- design the handbills into the poster
- four per poster
- ETLC in the morning and at night
- never on glass or painted surfaces, only on brick
- stop by the student offices to check where we can put up posters
- also try to do the same as rest
- really good if we can get the Safewalk vote, without 'getting' the Safewalk vote
- make look the same, colour and style, continue into bagtags and handbills!
- forums:
- practice
- don't look stiff or rehersed
- need to be prepared, know the job and the material
- don't go over time
- if go to FSJ, try to be in French
- remember the audience, if Horowitz general
- three broad points
- don't go over time
- don't go negative, focus on why we are good
- stick with our established ideas
- pack the rooms with supporters! Get genetics and safewalk, will always cheer
- looks like support and a win
- arrange planted questions
- check on Frat gatherings, if arise I'll be told and then go, Frat vote is high
- there's another Redhead sitting across from me, she looks angry
- she just keeps starring at me, like really starting to creep me out. I mean everytime that I look at her she looks away, but you know that as soon as I turn away she's trying to take my soul
- I'm glad this this print is too small to read for other people
- can I use my car? And a siren?
